21st Century Skills

21st Century Skills are the content knowledge, work habits, character traits, and skills considered to be crucial to academic and professional success in today’s world. Specifically, individuals in the 21st Century must be able to think critically, communicate effectively, demonstrate problem-solving skills, and work collaboratively. Students must also demonstrate information literacy and the ability to use technology to analyze and create content.

In developing our model for the integration of 21st Century skills, the Orinda Union School District drew from the technology standards for students, educators, and education leaders written by the International Society of Technology Educators (ISTE). ISTE defines its standards in the following manner: “The ISTE Standards are a framework for students, educators, administrators, coaches, and computer science educators to rethink education and create innovative learning environments. The standards are helping educators and education leaders worldwide re-engineer schools and classrooms for digital age learning, no matter where they are on the journey to effective edtech integration.”
