Demographic Study
During the Spring of 2022, OUSD staff contracted with SchoolWorks to perform a district demographic study. The study examined future enrollment trends and provided staff and the Board of Trustees with information about the impact of enrollment on District schools. As a result of the demographic study's information and the ensuing discussions in the follow-up Board meetings, at the November 14, 2022 meeting, the Board of Trustees changed OUSD boundaries.
Since the boundary change, Universal TK is in its fourth year of expansion and almost at full implementation, and enrollment changes continue to impact OUSD schools at different rates. To further analyze OUSD school enrollment and its future impact, SchoolWorks was asked to perform a follow-up enrollment study.
These forecasts involve student projections and analysis of demographic data relevant to the District’s facility planning efforts. The scope of contracted work included: mapping the District, address matching the current student file, developing and researching pertinent demographic data, identifying future residential development plans, and developing a seven-year student population projection.
Additionally, this study was prepared to assist the District’s efforts in evaluating future site requirements and possible attendance area changes in conjunction with its ongoing Facility Master Plan Committee.
It is important to remember that the report is a snapshot of the current and potential student population based on data gathered at the time. Population demographics change, development plans change, funding opportunities can change, District priorities can change, and therefore, new projections and adjustments to the overall Master Plan will continue to be necessary for the future.
